"Love & Respect":Interactive Exhibition of Bodily Autonomy in Children jointly organized by the Kiddie Matters Parent-Child Education Association, the Macau Diocesan Performing Arts Association, and the Macau Cardinal Newman Arts and Culture Center, successfully held its opening ceremony last Saturday. Distinguished guests in attendance included Ms. Ka Si In, Director of the Infant and Primary Education Division of the Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau; Ms. Ieong Ka Ian, Head of the Unit of Supportive Services to Court at the Child and Youth Services Division of the Macau Social Welfare Bureau; Principal Tam Ut Meng of Escola da Sagrada Familia; Principal Cheong Wai Ling of Colégio Mateus Ricci;Director Ms. Agnes Wong, represent of the Macau Cardinal Newman Arts and Culture Center and Macau Diocesan Performing Arts Association and the; Ms. Ho Yin Yin from the Macau Against Child Abuse Association Child Protection Cenre; and illustrator KINSON. Following the opening ceremony, curator Wing Lee provided an on-site guided tour of the exhibition for the guests. Many parents also brought their children to experience the interactive games firsthand.
Curator Wing Lee expressed, "Although I have been sharing and helping parents address misconceptions about sex education on social media, I wanted to explore other ways to use my professional knowledge to assist more parents. This led to the idea of creating an educational and interactive exhibition on children's sex education. Additionally, children need to learn not only how to protect themselves but also how to respect others, to prevent them from becoming perpetrators. That's why this exhibition specifically focuses on this theme."
Director Agnes Wong added, "We hope that through this exhibition, children can better understand their bodily boundaries while playing and interacting, further enhancing their self-protection awareness and respect for the differences between male and female bodies. We also hope that the exhibition will open up channels for parents to discuss sex education with their children, helping them convey positive, accurate, and healthy knowledge about sexuality. This will enable children to grow up with the right mindset, becoming happier and more confident in their identity."
The exhibition features an interactive game zone and a picture book reading area, making it particularly suitable for children aged three to eight. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children to play and learn together! Additionally, the exhibition will host extension activities, including themed lectures for children and their parents, as well as picture book reading sessions led by curator Wing Lee and children's visual arts worker Lam Tai Heung.
